Recording studio tuning sessions

We had the usual glut of pre and post Easter recording studio sessions to tune for, including a couple that were new to me. Kore Studios in Acton, which has a 32 Channel API 1608 desk (pictured) installed in the autumn, have recorded Florence and the Machine, Plan B, Ronnie Wood and numerous other artists. Right round the corner is Westpoint Studios, which boasts clients such as Dave Stewart, Jeff Beck, Tom Jones, Primal Scream, Simply Red, Seal, Bjork and Kylie Minogue to name a few. Like Urchin Studios and Miloco Hoxton Square, Westpoint Studios wisely have chosen a Feurich model 122 upright piano (also pictured). The new Sarm Music Village on Ladbroke Grove (also using a Feurich 122 for a recording session tomorrow instead of the Steinway grand) have also been busy for tunings, as well as British Grove in Chiswick (Bosendorfer Imperial grand). Dan Britten’s popular State of the Ark studio in Richmond is full of vintage recording equipment for the connoisseur, and has a lovely modern Steinway model B grand and a 1930 Broadwood upright we sold them a few years back. I was delighted to find Steve Robson’s Northern Sky tucked away on the banks of the River Thames at Mortlake. Since the demise of many of the big studios it is great to see smaller, bespoke studios thriving once again in London.
