Celebrity Bosendorfers

In the  1970s and 1980s it was de rigeur to buy a Bosendorfer grand piano if you had made it in the pop world. If you had a hundred grand to spend and a big space then there was nothing more lavish than the Bosendorfer Imperial (290cm or 9ft 6 in long, with 97 keys!). That was true whether you were a producer (Trevor Horn at Sarm Studios) or an artist (Mark Knopfler at British Grove Studios). The Bosendorfer grand piano pictured is from Guy Chambers’s house, where I tuned this last week. Of course if you have a mere ten thousand pounds to spare now you can pick up a lovely Feurich grand piano with a similar copper frame and Viennese sound instead.
